The short answer: only when the question says "Toronto"
On October 24, 2026, Pai was named in 3 of 10 answers: 1 of 5 on ChatGPT and 2 of 5 on Gemini, for a visibility score of 29/100. That sounds low for a restaurant this well known, but the split by question tells a clearer story.
Two of the five questions mentioned Toronto by name: "What is the best Thai restaurant in Toronto for authentic Pad Thai?" and "What are the most popular dishes at Thai restaurants in Toronto?". Across those four answers, Pai was named three times. Gemini put it at #1 for both questions, and ChatGPT listed it #2 for Pad Thai. The other three questions didn't name a city, and Pai was named in none of those six answers.
What happens when the question leaves out the city
When a question said "in the city" or gave no place at all, the engines often answered for somewhere else. For "Which Thai restaurant offers the top-rated green curry in the city?", Gemini named Kalaya, Jitlada and Lotus of Siam, well-known US Thai restaurants rather than Toronto ones. For the casual-dining question it named Night + Market Song, Soothr, Lotus of Siam and Lers Ros. ChatGPT's answers to those questions named Toronto-area spots such as Up Thai, Sawasdee Thai Cuisine, Little Bloom and Hat Yai, but not Pai.
The vegetarian question went to May Kaidee on both engines, with ChatGPT also naming Khun Churn and Green Elephant Vegetarian Bistro, and Gemini naming Salaya Vegan Thai-Fusion and Banana Leaf Thai. And ChatGPT's answer to the popular-dishes question listed dishes and websites rather than restaurants, so no restaurant got credit there.
Real people ask AI the way they talk, often without the city, and assistants don't always know where they are. A local restaurant that only shows up when the city is spelled out is missing a share of those questions.
Who AI recommends for Thai food in Toronto
Across all 10 answers, Khao San Road was the most-named restaurant (3 answers), followed by May Kaidee, Sukhothai and Lotus of Siam (2 each). Chiang Mai, Koh Lipe Thai Kitchen, Jatujak Thai Street Style Food, Thai One Eats, Sala Modern Thai Kitchen, Som Tum Jinda and Salad King each came up once.
On the one question that both engines answered for Toronto and that Pai is best known for, Pad Thai, the shortlists were short: ChatGPT gave five names and Gemini gave four. Pai made both lists, alongside Khao San Road on both. That is the kind of question where being on the list matters most, because a diner usually picks from the first few names.
Where the answers came from
The engines cited google.com 28 times and reddit.com 9 times, far more than any other source. After those came takeachef.com (3), and foodism.ca, tastytourstoronto.com, youtube.com and tastingtable.com (2 each). Pai's own website, paitoronto.com, was not among the top cited sources in this check.
For restaurants this pattern is common: AI leans on Google listings and reviews, Reddit threads where locals argue about the best spot, and food guides. A restaurant's own site matters less than what other people write about it.
What a Toronto restaurant can learn from this
Make your location impossible to miss. Put the city and neighbourhood in your page titles, menus and Google Business Profile, and in the words people use ("Thai restaurant in downtown Toronto"), so answers that have to guess the place still connect you to it.
Own your signature dish. Pai showed up where it is famous, Pad Thai. Pages, reviews and guides that tie your name to specific dishes and occasions (vegetarian, date night, family dinner, delivery) give AI more questions to name you for.
Show up where AI reads. Here that meant Google reviews, Reddit and local food sites such as Foodism and Tasty Tours Toronto. A single check is a snapshot, since answers change from week to week, which is why it pays to track the same questions over time.
What this means
When buyers ask AI assistants for Thai restaurant in Toronto, Pai came up in 3 of 10 answers. AI answers change week to week, so a single check is a snapshot. CitedWeekly re-runs your questions every Monday and emails you what changed.
